How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

Published on

New double-pane windows provide a host of incentives for homeowners in Traverse City, one being increased energy efficiency. No matter if you’re exploring online or with a specialist at a showroom, energy efficiency is an important factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great choice if you’re wanting better efficiency.

A lot of new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is denser than air, which leaves you with additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you notice that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a bigger leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are two things that you can do to determine if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to make sure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you find out that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can contact the manufacturer to determine if you can make a warranty claim.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions causing the leak, it may make sense to start searching for replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important features of your windows, and if that is compromised it can affect your heating and cooling bills.
